Kevin Lagos, the GRHS band director said, "It's always sad to lay a great show to rest at the end of a season and then see our seniors graduate, but the anticipation of what new music our arranger, Darren Gage (GRHS Class of 1990), will create for us for the next season and welcoming the new freshmen into the band always lights a spark under us".

This year's show of magical birds Gage "Firebird Suite" is a musical based on the story, the phoenix.

This music is complex and difficult to manage that much more time, that a judge will recognize it as a challenge is set.

Melody of audience members can identify with Disney "Fantasia."

In addition to mastering the music, the Band and Color Guard for their March drill and dance on Saturday week will continue to improve.

"I can see improvement every day," says Jessica Cino (nee Sartori), assistant marching band director.

Cino, 2000 in Glen Ridge and served as a big drum, marvels at how students are aware of their weaknesses, are staying focused and are responding to the leadership provided by their captains and drum major.

"We're on fire," said Cino, barely able to suppress her flame of confidence. "I'm anticipating a win."

This year's show — which the students have titled, "Aaarrrgh, I'm on Fire…Bird!" — is the 'Ridgers two home football games in history have been performed. People already in attendance in a show can change focus. The opening has dramatically changed.

The Verona High School Band Festival and Competition will be held at Verona's high school stadium on Saturday, Oct. 1.

And Lagos, his trademark enthusiasm of Man exhibition, says the band "is so hot right now, they can't catch on fire…but the audience might melt."

The Glen Ridge March steps off at the Verona Band 6:15 pm.

Tickets are availble at the gate - cost at $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students and $3 for children under age 12.
